Fishing lets players facing a body of water start an encounter with a wild monster using a fishing rod (Fishing Rod, Neptune or Poseidon).

Each rod has its own configuration that defines:

  • odds of an encounter with each fishing attempt
  • range of monsters that might be hooked, including possible levels
  • presentation details (such as water tint and battle background)

When a fishing attempt begins, the game gathers all monsters that match the filters defined for the selected item.

Filters can be by: Morphing Stage, Body Shape, Type and Tag. They can be weighted (for example, the Fishing Rod selects a Polliwog 70% of the time and a Piscine 30% of the time.

Example Entry[edit | edit source]

fishing_rod:
  trigger: 0.6
  lower_bound: 5
  upper_bound: 15
  exp_req_mod: 2.0
  stages:
    - basic
  shapes:
    - polliwog
    - piscine
  shape_weights:
    polliwog: 0.7
    piscine: 0.3
  animation_color: [0, 105, 148]
  environment:
    default: ocean
    night: night_ocean
  held_items: {}

The trigger field means only 60% of casts actually result in an encounter.

The lower_bound and upper_bound limits ensure the monster's level will be between levels 5 and 15.

exp_req_mod means the monster will, if defeated, give double XP.

shape_weights makes Polliwogs more common than Piscine ones.

If types or tags appeared, then only monsters of those types/tags would appear.

animation_color tints the fishing splash.

environment dictates the battle (including one option for day and another for night).

held_items allows for a chance for the monster to be holding a held item.
