Name Origin: Name based on the leaf nosed bat the Spectral Bat, playing on leaf nosed bats often being fruit eaters and having the word 'leaf' in their name. The spectral bat is a rare monogamous species and is also called the false vampire.
Spectral Bat's scientific name, Vampyrum spectrum. The genus name "Vampyrum" comes from the Latin word "vampyrus," meaning "vampire". The species name "spectrum" is derived from the Latin word "spectrum," meaning "appearance" or "ghostly apparition".
