Trivia
Name Origin: Name based on megachiroptera which contains most but not all fruit bats.
The term "Megachiroptera" comes from the Greek words "mega" meaning "large" or "great", "cheir" meaning "hand", and "ptera" meaning "wings". This refers to the fact that these bats have large hands or fingers, which are actually their wings. The name was coined by the British zoologist Charles Immanuel Forsyth Major in 1897.
