An idea, not a priority:
Each Tuxemon species would have one or two Features that members of that species would have, at random. They would apply all the time.
Some Variants could be implemented through Features.
Feature ideas

Firestick | Any time you are the target of a Fire-type technique, your Melee increases by one stage | |
Charge | Any time you are the target of a Metal-type technique, your Speed increases by one stage. | |
Forgetful | At the end of each turn, all statuses and battle conditions and so on that are on you end. | |
Robot | If you are incapable of attacking, you do damage to yourself and the opponent (from josepharaoh99) | |
Draw Fire | In a double battle, all attacks against your opponent switch to having only you as the target. | |
Teamwork | In a double battle, your fellow tuxemon gets its Melee and Ranged boosted by two stages | |
Reboot | In a round where you use an item, your active creature’s Defence and Special Defence increase by 1 stage (for that round only) | |
Hover | This creature has Resist Earth | |
Reduce Reuse Recycle | When a consumable is used on or by you, flip a coin. Heads, the consumable isn't used up. | |
Jolt | When an enemy creature damages this creature, the enemy creature takes 1 MAX | |
Luck Lockdown | When one of your creatures’ attacks would be in the bottom 20% or top 10%, reroll it | |
Sweet Tooth | When this creature consumes an item, it heals 2 MAX | |
Quick Use | When this creature is swapped in to a battle, you can choose an item to use on it immediately | |
Toxic Blood | When your enemy damages this creature with a Physical technique, the enemy creature has a 10% chance of being Poisoned | |
Magnetise | When your enemy uses an item, it affects your creature instead. | |
